Greetings from Camp Mozumdar! It’s been a productive few weeks as we work to maintain and improve the campgrounds. Here’s a quick update on some of the projects we’ve been tackling.
Enhanced Security with New Gates and Fencing
We’ve recently installed two iron gates and a chain-link fence between them, clearly marking Camp Mozumdar as private property. While most neighbors understand and respect this, there have been occasional incidents of trespassing. We’re kindly asking anyone with a genuine need to visit the camp to contact us in advance for permission. It’s important for us to maintain the safety and privacy of the space.
Remodeling the Manager’s Cabin and Temple
Renovations to the manager’s cabin and temple are underway, with a focus on ensuring a reliable water supply to both buildings. We’ve also begun upgrading the temple’s aging windows. Once repairs are complete, we plan to install new double-pane windows to improve insulation and aesthetics.
Restoring Our Bobcat Tractor
Good news on the equipment front! A skilled technician assessed our broken Bobcat tractor and identified the necessary repairs. After sourcing most of the missing parts, we’re optimistic about having it back in action soon. With proper maintenance, we hope this trusty tractor will serve us for another decade.
Cleaning Up the Campgrounds
Efforts to clean and organize Camp Mozumdar are well underway. Tons of wood waste have been sorted into recyclable materials, firewood, and trash.
A new 40-yard dumpster is scheduled to arrive in August for additional debris. We’re making steady progress in clearing and disposing of waste responsibly.
Improving Water Infrastructure
Reliable water access is a top priority. Here’s what we’ve been working on:
Replaced corroded underground iron pipes with durable PVC piping, improving water flow to the cabin and temple.
Identified the need for a second 7,500-gallon water storage tank, which will help manage water shortages. This project should be complete by the end of September.
Repairing Roads
The dusty, worn roads from the main gate to the cabin are next on our list. Once the Bobcat tractor is operational, we’ll begin installing storm drains to minimize future damage and improve accessibility.
A Heartfelt Thanks
These improvements are made possible through the dedication and support of our volunteers and community members. Your contributions, whether time, expertise, or resources, keep Camp Mozumdar a welcoming and functional retreat space.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this journey of restoration and renewal!
Warm regards,
The Camp Mozumdar Team
